2 noches en el desierto de Merzouga

3 days tour from Fes to Marrakech

Day 1: Fez – Ifrane – Ziz Valley – Merzouga Desert

Departing from Fez, we’ll travel through the Middle Atlas Mountains, passing by the town of Ifrane, known as “Little Switzerland” for its alpine-like architecture. Continuing through cedar forests, you may spot Barbary macaque monkeys. After lunch, we’ll cross the scenic Ziz Valley with its date palms, arriving in Merzouga in the evening. Here, you’ll begin a camel trek to reach a desert camp amid the dunes, where you’ll enjoy a Berber dinner and overnight under the stars.

Catch a breathtaking sunrise over the dunes before heading back on camels to Merzouga. After breakfast, visit the village of Khamlia, famous for Gnawa music, where you’ll experience traditional performances. Next, we’ll drive to the Todra Gorge, with its towering cliffs, and continue on to Dades Valley, known for its “Monkey Fingers” rock formations. Overnight in a traditional hotel in Dades Valley.

After breakfast, we continue to the historic kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage site and famous film location. We’ll then travel through the Tizi n’Tichka Pass in the High Atlas Mountains, enjoying incredible views. The tour concludes in Marrakech in the late afternoon.

Research the Culture and Etiquette

Understand the local customs, dress codes, and social etiquette. For instance, Morocco is predominantly Muslim, so modest dress is appreciated, especially in rural areas and religious sites.

Make sure you know the local currency (the Moroccan Dirham in Morocco) and whether credit cards are widely accepted. It’s also helpful to carry small bills for tips and local purchases, as cash is often preferred in smaller towns.

Research transportation options ahead of time, especially if public transit isn’t readily available or reliable in your destination. In Morocco, for example, you’ll find options like trains, buses, taxis, and even camel rides in desert areas!
